Biography
Enver Zerem, MD, PhD, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is a distinguished expert in interventional ultrasonography and pancreatology. He earned his medical degree from the University of Belgrade in 1977 and specialized in internal medicine with a focus on gastroenterology.
He has held numerous leadership roles, including Director for Scientific Research and Education at the University Clinical Center Tuzla (2007–2018), Chair of the Doctoral Studies Council (2012–2017), and member of the steering board of the Eurasian Association of Gastroenterology and Abdominal Surgery since 2016.
Prof. Zerem is recognized as one of the pioneers of a novel approach to acute pancreatitis management, significantly improving patient outcomes. In 2025, Pancreatology published a global consensus on acute pancreatitis management in which he led the interventional procedures working group.
He has published over 200 scientific papers, including 106 in Web of Science-indexed journals, and proposed the Z-score scientometric index. Listed among the top 2% most influential scientists globally by Stanford University and Elsevier since 2018, he is a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and serves on editorial boards of several international journals.
